- At mealtimes, leave his food down for a defined period of time (Remove it after say 30 minutes, even if he hasn\u2019t eaten, and don\u2019t put food down again until next meal time) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Don\u2019t change dog foods (Choose one, and stick with it)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Don\u2019t give him your food<\/span><\/li>\n
- Don\u2019t give any treats<\/span><\/li>\n
- Don\u2019t make a fuss if he won\u2019t eat (But praise him if he does eat)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Feed him separately from other pets (This can help if food aggression from other pets is a problem)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Exercise him before feeding time (This can help to make him hungry!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
It can take some time to get to the bottom of problems like this, and many cases require assertiveness on your part \u2013 sometimes your behavior needs change in order to let your dog know who\u2019s boss.<\/span><\/p>\nSo in general, first rule out any underlying illness that may stop your pet from eating. Next tackle any behavioral or environmental issues that could be contributing to the problem.
